T_!
biographyT_! first got his hands on a pair of turntables shortly after his 16th birthday. Already brought up on a staple diet of all genres from a young age, music was something he was passionate about from the start. Pirate radio and swapping tapes with mates fuelled his hunger for the darker more bass driven beats, and he spent every penny he could get his hands on buying tunes at local record shop Big Drum Records. Within 6 months of starting to mix he had a Saturday morning show playing Garage on pirate Impact FM as DJ TNT. A prime time set followed shortly, and club bookings began rolling in before he hit his 17th birthday. He secured a local weekly residency shortly after, and played for reknown promoters Catch The Feelin, Garage Nation, Pure Silk, aswell as many other nights around Herts/Beds/Bucks and East Anglia all before his 18th birthday. Garage music began to mutate, and he favoured the bassier darker sounds, which he implimented more into his club sets, and championed Breakstep, Grime, and darker two step over the more vocal orientated music around at the time. As early Dubstep and Grime grew, TNT Dj'd alongside crews such as Macabre Unit and IMP Batch, local to the area he was playing in, and began concentrating on supporting the music coming from his area. Bookings playing Grime & Dubstep continued throughout the UK, and several appearances at various nights in Holland and Germany followed. In this time TNT was hooked on the raw sound coming from South London, more complexed, deeper beats than the slightly simplistic Grime. Grime peaked with Macabre and IMP both appearing on DJ Cameo's 1xtra show, with TNT Djing. After the shows, longtime producer Trend contacted TNT regarding his name, as Trend and Target produced under the TNT/Outlaw Breaks moniker. At this time TNT was beginning to tire of how Grime took all of the attention away from the DJ and his skills, and after a visit to an early Filthy Dub night in Brixton, decided to concentrate on mixing Dubstep. He made the transition, changing his DJ name to T_!, and set about pushing the Dubstep sound around the Home Counties/East Anglia area, with Dj bookings and pirate radio airplay. The Macabre Unit guys continued to produce with more intricate and complex tunes, which sat hand in hand with Dubstep. T_!'s Sunday night radio show was receiving great feedback, but there were very few places that Dubstep could be represented properly. T_! joined forces in early 2007 with fellow Perception FM Dj's Swiss & Daddy Genius, who were pushing heavy D'n'B. Their vision at the start was a small, free, local night with a massive soundsystem, where they could put across their Dubstep and Drum & Bass music in a way they feel it should be representated. The first "Stink Like Sock" night went off to a huge success, and continued to draw in more followers, hungry for another fix of dirty beats and bass. T_!'s Dubstep bookings continued to take him from one end of the UK to the other, and back into Europe, while helpinbg stablish and grow the Dubstep scene through Hert/Beds/Bucks and East Anglia. A residency followed in room 2 at legendary Drum'n'Bass rave Warning, at the Junction, as well as residencies at other nights in Cambridge, London, and Bedford. The last 2 years has seen the meteoric rise of Dubstep as a music genre, and as a result, T_! continues to smash up clubs with his notorious arsenal of huge tunes, quickfire mixing and daring technical ability. The East of England is thriving as a international Dubstep location, and T_! has seen it grow from a few DJ's sharing a love for the music, right through to a venue filling rave epidemic. T_!'s love for pirate radio has seen him play on such stations as Impact FM, Noize FM, Groove FM, Freeze FM, Vybe FM, Rinse FM and Getdarker.TV, and he currently has a weekly show on Home Counties Perception FM and award winning Internet station WWW.SUB.FM. Not even 25 yet, T_! will be a dedicated player on the Dubstep circuit for many years to come. |
