Stig & Syntax
biographyImagine two of the country's newest and most prolific up and comers in hip hop, then take all of your preconceptions and bin them. While they are definitely two of the most talked about new talents in the country, they are far from your standard rap affiliates. Bringing a much needed comedy approach to their music, while still being able to maintain their serious sides, these two are a world away from your average stern faced collective. Without a single reference to their designer clothes, street life or thuggery, instead choosing to opt for both intelligent observational and self-depreciating humour, this odd couple are more than content with not fitting in. Although comedy plays a large part in their recorded and live performances, they are by no means another novelty act and their own personal brand of Hip-Hop shows a definite appeal to both underground and mainstream fans alike. Having both gained reputations as solo artists, with Dr. Syntax's frequent guest appearances on Foreign Beggars releases and stage shows and Stig of The Dump's world wide exposure through battling, guest appearances and the continuing success of his "Homeless Microphonist EP", they have now decided to pool their resources and create a live show which rivals that of any of the scene's more established acts. When booking or paying to see them in the flesh, expect big stage presence, buckets of humour, effortless flows and gob-smacking freestyles from the word go." Stig of the DumpStraight out of that place in your head that filters out the bad things, Stig of the Dump's arrival to the UK scene is unprecedented, smashing stages with his frank and crude take on the world around him. World EOW Challenge Champion, UK EOW Challenge Champion, UK Battlescars Champion, Jump Off Tag Team Champion and with over 500,000 views of his notorious annihilation of Asher D he is an artist with a huge reputation for no holds barred delivery. Not afraid of saying the things you wish you could say, Stig is far from just a battle MC, proving his worth on tracks with his critically acclaimed HOMELESS MICROPHONIST EP, which from the day of its release was the number 1 seller on the UK's biggest Hip Hop mail order site (www.Suspect-Packages.com) until it sold out. Stig then followed up it's success with his highly anticipated BRAINDEAD 12" ft. Indie US filth monger RA The Rugged Man, receiving single of the month in Hip Hop Connection, IDJ & DJ Magazine. Not simply a master of the spoken word, Stig has also written for the likes of The Guardian, FRONT, FHM, ZOO, One Week To Live, Music Week, Hip Hop Connection and continues to write for HHC Digital. With a unique style, in a world of sound alikes and clones, Stig is a leader of innovative and original ideas, his own personal brand of self deprecating humour, witty observations and off key subject matter, providing a much needed antidote to the bling addled thuggery infesting the genre today. Cited as none other than Robbie Williams' favourite rapper, Stig shows an ability to cross over while still maintaining his underground appeal. With a dexterity that see's him able to jump genres from straight up Hip Hop to Dubstep, Grime, Drum & Bass & Hardcore Rock, things are definitely looking "MAN SIZE" for the future. Dr SyntaxStraight out of the world-renowned hip-hop hotbed of rural Oxfordshire, Dr Syntax is a rapper who has long been held in high regard in the domestic scene. His knack for witty social commentary, intelligent wordplay and razor-sharp flows, all delivered with his trademark charismatic swagger that belies his nerdy appearance, have earned him a legion of die-hard fans throughout the UK and beyond. After a slew of well-received guest appearances since 2003, Syntax dropped his critically acclaimed 'Self Taught' LP in 2007, receiving glowing reviews in Hip Hop Connection, IDJ, DJ and Echoes to name a few. As well as tearing up shows alongside Stig Of The Dump and DJ Manipulate, Syntax has toured extensively with legendary UK crew Foreign Beggars, his guest appearances regularly proving a highlight in their award-winning live show. Well tested on the live circuit, he has previously supported US acts such as Wu Tang Clan, The Pharcyde, Slum Village, KRS One and RA The Rugged Man. Outside of touring and recording, Syntax has raised his profile by winning a UK heat of the world-famous 'End Of The Weak' MC challenge from New York, and is a 'Clever Looking' battle champion (Brighton's most prestigious battle title). He has also contributed to Hip Hop Connection and is currently involved in an initiative set up by Philip Beadle (of Channel 4's 'The Unteachables' and 'Can't Read Can't Write') to improve literacy levels in schools through the use of rap poetry. Following the critical success of 'Scene Stealers', his full-length collaboration with North London rapper Skrein (collectively they are known as 'Skreintax'), 2010 looks set to be a big year for Syntax with the release of his new album 'Off The Radar Volume 2' and further rabble-rousing antics on the 'F.U. Music Tour' alongside Stig and DJ Manipulate. |
